Skinner Cemetery
William G. Pomeroy Foundation historic marker dedication at the Skinner Cemetery in Vernon Center NY. George Gydesen and Lynn Bowers of Oriskany Battle Chapter SAR attended.
Skinner Cemetery, located on Lyons Road just south of Vernon Center, is the final resting place for five Revolutionary War patriots. A William G. Pomeroy Foundation historic marker honors these veterans: Josiah Chapin, Isaac Cody, Samuel Cody, Simeon Richards, and Gideon Skinner
NJROTC (Naval Junior ROTC) Award Ceremony, Notre Dame HighSchool
Raymond Maldonado, Notre Dame HS NJROTC Cadet, receiving a certificate of excellence and a bronze medal from Peter Sheppard SAS - OBC President. Leslie Raney, Oneida DAR Regent and Peter Sheppard SAS - OBC President, awarded Cadets with certificates and medals. Leslie is the mother of Braedon Raney of the Oriskany Battle Chapter, SAR.
Installation of Pomeroy Sign
Dedication of the Pomeroy Foundation’s NYS historical marker in Cooperstown, NY was Saturday, May 9th to honor Revolutionary war veteran John Davison buried in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. County historian Deb Mackenzie, Cooperstown mayor Ellen Tillapaugh, and Oriskany Battle Chapter SAR President Peter Sheppard hosted the event.
Pomeroy National Historic Marker Cleaning Weekend
President Peter Sheppard and Suzanne Sheppard volunteered on behalf of the Chapter to clean several Pomeroy signs in the area. Hopefully, with more notice we have a bigger turnout for this worthwhile event. A lot of fun was had!
ROTC Awards
President Peter Sheppard and Registrar George Gydesen attended the Chancellor's Review and presented two ROTC Silver certificates and medals to ROTC and USAF ROTC Cadets Orrin Price and Lucy Ballard at Syracuse University.
On October 19, 2025, 245 years after his death, members of the Oriskany Battle Chapter placed a wreath at his gravesite to honor Col John Brown. He was killed in action on his 36th birthday at the Battle of Stone Arabia and is buried there behind the Dutch Reformed Church.
